| Requirements and Responsibilities For Power System Dispatch Manager |
| Manages the day-to-day operations of the power system dispatch center to ensure reliable, safe, and cost-effective control of the transmission and distribution system. Oversees the scheduling and dispatch of generation resources, transmission switching, and real-time balancing of electricity supply and demand. Develops and implements operating procedures, training programs, and performance standards for dispatch and control center staff. Monitors system conditions, coordinates planned and emergency outages, and directs restoration activities during system disturbances. Ensures compliance with NERC reliability standards and regional and regulatory requirements governing system operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require NERC System Operator Certification. Typically reports to a director. Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes. |
