| Requirements and Responsibilities For Underwriting Director - Life |
| Directs the team responsible for reviewing and analyzing life insurance applications. Ensures underwriting guidelines, rules, and standards are being used to accept, reject, or mitigate risk for applications. Evaluates reinstatements and changes in existing policies. Provides guidance and assists on more complex applications. May underwrite and oversee the issuance of renewal on key accounts. Ensures compliance with all industry and governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification. Typically reports to senior management. Manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. |
